Here’s how to really use orange in your home for a stylish interior
Orange might not be the first choice when you think of designing your home, but we’re here to show you how it’s done! Orange can bring an optimistic feeling to any space, just in the same way the Resene Paint it Orange campaign aims to brighten up the day of those suffering from arthritis.
This month is your perfect chance to test out Resene’s wide range of orange hues. For every orange-coloured Resene 60 mL testpot sold, Resene will donate $1 to Arthritis New Zealand. Arthritis New Zealand provides support to New Zealand children and adults suffering from a range of types of arthritis and also funds research aiming to improve the lives of those suffering from the condition.
Here's how striking orange can really look in your home, plus some Resene shades you can try:
Toasty slumber

Toasty, welcoming and just the space you want to curl up in after a long day. This bedroom has a minimal design, with an added touch of colour and texture for some depth. The walls are painted in Resene Wild West with a ragged effect over the top in Resene FX Paint Effects Medium mixed with Resene Sante Fe. The floor in Resene Bianca and side tables in Resene Thorndon Cream and Resene Rice Cake add lightness to the space and prevent the colours becoming too heavy. Earthy hues, which pair well with oranges, are added to this space to keep it cohesive and grounded, such as the vases in Resene Wild West and Resene Cashmere and the front wall in Resene Bitter.

For more cosy bedroom shades, try Resene Hot August, Resene Twizel, Resene Fire and Resene Alert Tan.
A welcome that wows

Design and image by homeowner, Jane.
If you’re not afraid of colour, then orange is one of those shades that has many bold and vibrant variations. The dazzling Resene Trinidad is used as a feature wall in this home’s entrance, paired with artwork in similar tones, dark timber and walls in Resene White, creating a modern yet striking design. It’s amazing what a feature wall can do, especially if you’re in a neutral home and want to add a bit of life to it without spending a lot.

If you’re loving Jane’s dazzling orange entryway, you’ll also love these oranges with plenty of intensity: Resene West Side, Resene Outrageous, Resene Adrenalin and Resene Daredevil.
Muted magic

Design and image by Catherine Roberts.
Resene Karry, a gentle peach shade, adorns artist Catherine Robert’s kitchen and living area. This isn’t your first thought when you hear the colour orange, but in fact there are some beautifully soft, pastel hues that add warmth and calm to any space in your home. They can also feel quite neutral if you’re not wanting to add a lot of colour into your home. Resene Karry was a great choice in this charming home, especially when paired with the contrasting window trims in Resene Black and stairwell in Resene Paradiso.

Try soft and peachy oranges in your home, such as Resene Pot Pourri, Resene Sandy Beach, Resene Tuft Bush and Resene Romantic.
The perfect contrast

Cushions from The Warehouse. Project and art by Vanessa Nouwens, image by Bryce Carleton.
Orange is a stunning colour when paired with blue, and the right tones together can be reminiscent of sand and sky. Like a summer’s day at the beach. In this entryway, the floor is painted in Resene Villa White and Resene Bounty which mimic the ocean waves. The walls are painted in Resene Bermuda Grey, and against this gorgeous blue is pops of warm Resene Tuscany on the plant pot, art frame and coat hook. The seat also adds warmth in Resene Bone. This is a great design for those who love the colours of nature, and would also work well in a bach or holiday home.

If you’re looking for some golden oranges to pair with blue, try Resene Sunshade, Resene Whiskey Sour, Resene Roxy and Resene Mai Tai.
Orange outdoors

Design and image by homeowners Helen and Phil.
Earthy oranges are great for exteriors as they blend into the natural landscape. Helen and Phil’s home has a tropical feel, with frangipani and a passionfruit vine growing next to their Mediterranean hued exterior. This custom colour (which they named ‘Lynch Terracotta’) was created for the exterior of their Auckland home by their local Resene ColorShop.

For a similar look to this exterior, try Resene Tuscany or Resene Sante Fe. Or if you’re after more muted, near-neutral and classic exterior shades try Resene Pearl Bush, Resene Bone, Resene Wafer or Resene Gold Coast.
Support Arthritis NZ
Every purchase of an orange testpot from Resene this month contributes $1 to Arthritis New Zealand, supporting their mission to improve the lives of those living with arthritis. With over 700,000 New Zealanders affected, arthritis is a leading cause of disability. While there’s no cure, many people with arthritis continue to lead fulfilling lives with the right support and resources.

Embrace the warmth of orange in your home while contributing to a meaningful cause and let Resene’s orange palette inspire you to create a space that is both beautiful and impactful.
